The story:
It all began on Valentine’s Day. Ian and I participated in some V-Day nookie and it wasn’t long after that I began experiencing contractions every five minutes. So off to the hospital we went. After a few hours of monitoring me, they told me to go home and rest because I was still at 3cm and not progressing any further. My midwife also recommended more sex, so we of course obligued her the next day. Well that started the contractions off in earnest and once again we piled into the car and headed for the hospital.

This time we didn’t leave. We arrived at 9-ish that night and I had to wait until 8:00 am for my midwife to finally arrive at the hospital. When she did, she decided to break my water because even though I was having such intense contractions, it my cervix was being stubborn.

So, the three of us (me, Ian and the midwife) went into the delivery room and she proceeded to break my water. Immediately after, I was placed in the water birth tub. It helped a little with the pain of the contractions, but they were still very painful. I am lucky to have had a short labor time though. Like, I said, I was in the tub at 8:00am and with some strong pushes, Mariah was born at 9:15am.

Nowadays
Mariah just turned 3 years old earlier this year. She continues to amaze me to this day. She’s always been very intelligent and a fast learner. Daily displays of her good nature, sense of humor and yes, even her quick temper fill me with joy and gratitude that something so special came into my life.
